Day 15: Limestone Ministries (Buchanan, VA) to home

Our last day is all on the road, deadheading home on I81 for most of it. Packup was a little different this morning as a result to make it easier to unload once we get home. This is a 4-state, 2 driver day, VA, WV, MD, PA.

It’s a beautiful morning, sunny and cloudless with temperatures in the high 40s on wake up and in the 60s for most of the day.

For the most part the weather has been cooler than last year but not unseasinably so. Severe storms threatened us a couple of times, as in tornadoes not far away, but the only really strong one we experienced was in Blythe Island that gave us a temporary swimming pool. Our rain coats are still rolled up in their storage places over the passenger seats so we are calling that success!

The quilt: a couple of people have asked about the quilt. Below is the quilt top. I’ll post a photo once I have finished quilting and binding it. It’s a scrappy quilt.

Little improvements to van and equipment this time that made van life easier as we continue to learn: the storage shelf across the back, the door stoppers on the bathroom doors, moderating the hot water temperature in the shower, mats across the bottom of our folding chairs to keep the legs from sinking into loose soil / sand, USB powered table lamps, stick up holders on the backsplash for wet cloths ( thanks to a daughter), a tabletop firepit (thanks to another daughter), the screened bug tent, using the front cabin at night more efficiently for storage (thanks to a night where we were forced to use the back doors rather than the side doors) and just little changes in re- thinking how to do things.

The next great adventure starts May 2, 2023 and will last 8 to 10 weeks!! Stay tuned as we prepare for our trip of a lifetime across Canada to Northern British Columbia, Vancouver, and Vancouver Island. This next trip is designed to visit family and friends, explore our native country in more depth, research family history and finally do things we should be doing sooner rather than later, just travelling and exploring, while we still can. It will be relatively unscripted so we can take the time we need to do/visit what we want and experience the unexpected. I hope you will join us!
