July 5 Driftwood PP (Stonecliffe, ON) to Ottawa, ON
This is our last official camping morning of the trip and we are in one of our favorite campgrounds. What a perfect ending. Another glorious morning, warm with a slight breeze. We are now experiencing summer heat and the breeze is lovely. It’s also keeping the bugs away. Sitting here on the Ottawa River withContinue reading “July 5 Driftwood PP (Stonecliffe, ON) to Ottawa, ON”
July 2 Neys PP to Pancake Bay PP, Lake Superior
We are exploring the north shore of Lake Superior via provincial campgrounds. The scenery as you drive this portion of Hwy 17 is spectacular and rugged in places. This is the Canadian Shield aka the Laurentian Plateau. The Canadian Shield (French: Bouclier canadien, also called the Laurentian Plateau, is a geologic shield, a large area of exposed Precambrianigneous and high-grademetamorphic rocks. It formsContinue reading “July 2 Neys PP to Pancake Bay PP, Lake Superior”
July 1 Rainbow Falls PP to Neys PP, north shore Lake Superior
Cool and damp this morning, indoor breakfast again. Today is July 1, Canada Day, a day for all Canadians to celebrate and reflect on what is means to be Canadian. June 30 Quetico PP to Rainbow Falls PP/Rossport, Ontario – Lake Superior Route
Traveling back through Northern Ontario but trying to keep to the southerly route along Lake Superior this time. Taking Highway 11 east then picking up Hwy 101 to avoid driving through Thunder Bay on the return trip, then south along the northern shore of Lake Superior via Hwy 17. At some point before Thunder Bay,Continue reading “June 30 Quetico PP to Rainbow Falls PP/Rossport, Ontario – Lake Superior Route”
June 29 Fort Frances, ON to Quetico Provincial Parrk (Atikokan, ON)
Very foggy this morning when we woke up but no rain, fortunately. We decided to breakfast somewhere along the road and have motel room coffee. Rain has been forecast for the Quetico area in the afternoon. We wanted to get there early enough to enjoy it. It’s about 2 hours from Fort Frances. Taking HwyContinue reading “June 29 Fort Frances, ON to Quetico Provincial Parrk (Atikokan, ON)”
June 28 Kenora, ON to Fort Frances, ON
Breakfast was outside again overlooking LotW on our little ‘deck’. We sat in the sunshine enjoying our morning coffee. Good thing too because that was the last of the sun until dinnertime. It poured rain just after we left the campsite all the way to Fort Francis through Sioux Narrows. This is sport fishing country.Continue reading “June 28 Kenora, ON to Fort Frances, ON”
June 27 Manitoba Agriculture Museum (Austin, MN) to Kenora, ON (Anicinabe RV Park)
Last night there was a thunderstorm around 10 pm. It didn’t produce much in the way of rain and a light shower around 6 am. Nothing that hindered our ability to pack up and get underway. The rain is badly needed here. Destination tonight is Kenora, ON. We closed the loop on the western drivingContinue reading “June 27 Manitoba Agriculture Museum (Austin, MN) to Kenora, ON (Anicinabe RV Park)”
June 26 Moose Mountain PP SK to Austin, MN / Manitoba Agriculture Museum and RV Park
Another day with only about 2 1/2 hours of travel. We wanted to spend at least one night in Mabitoba on the way back. Another morning when we could breakfast outside. Is this a trend developing? I certainly hope so. We solved another family puzzle along the way. Why did my grandfather come to SaskatchewanContinue reading “June 26 Moose Mountain PP SK to Austin, MN / Manitoba Agriculture Museum and RV Park”
June 25 Regina SK to Moose Mountain Provincial Park
Not a lot of travel today. We are taking a bit of a break over the weekend and take advantage of the lovely weather. Our campsite on Echo Lake PP was on one of the 4 lakes in the Qu’Appelle Valley formed by the Qu’Appelle River. We just drove along the lakes enjoying the smallContinue reading “June 25 Regina SK to Moose Mountain Provincial Park”
