The following photos are my personal reflections of a beautiful day in NYC at the end of August 2023: the gardens, the art, the buildings and architecture, wall murals, graffiti – all visible while walking the trail along the elevated railroad that constitutes the Highline starting from 12th Street at the Whitney Museum running northContinue reading “A Day on the Highline, NYC”

Two Days in New York City
We are fortunate enough to have access to an apartment in NYC. We use it whenever I have meetings at the United Nations for one of the organizations I am involved with, for music and dance, and for a general get away when we feel the need. The apartment uilding was closed down during theContinue reading “Two Days in New York City”
2023 Caen, Paris France
Our train back to Paris leaves mid-afternoon so we spent the morning visiting the Men’s Abbey and Church built by William the Conqueror. William the Conqueror holds a little nostalgia for me. We studied English history in school and William played a large part. 1066 was the last time England has been conquered. The NormanContinue reading “2023 Caen, Paris France”
2023 Juno Beach, Normandy
Today we are visiting the Normandy beaches used in the invasion of Normandy that began the liberation of Europe in 1944. In particular we are limiting our visit to Juno Beach where the Canadians landed ( by land, sea and air) on June 6th, 1944. It’s a beautiful day, the best weather since we’ve beenContinue reading “2023 Juno Beach, Normandy”
Caen, France 2023
The rest of our family went home today, some of them having been in Europe for a couple of weeks. We are staying on until Thursday. We leave Paris today to visit the Normandy beaches near Caen. Because our fathers both served in the Canadian armed forces during WWII, we are doing Juno Beach. MyContinue reading “Caen, France 2023”
2023 Paris, Day 4
Finally have some nice weather, bright sunshine and cool enough to enjoy all the walking necessary. The girls with us want to visit the English bookstore just opposite Notre Dame, Shakespeare and Company. Little did we know it’s the most popular attraction in Paris after the Eiffel Tower and the Louvre. We came over yesterdayContinue reading “2023 Paris, Day 4”
2023 Paris – Day 3
We have tickets to see Monet’s waterlilies at the Orangerie this morning and the Eiffel Tower this afternoon. This is at least our 6th visit to Paris. Our first time was with our own children in the early 80s and now grandchildren, for the second time. We travelled via Metro the first day or soContinue reading “2023 Paris – Day 3”
2023 Paris, France — Days 1 and 2
We are spending the next few days in France, starting with 5 days in Paris with our oldest daughter, her family and a young friend. I’m just going to post photos of some familiar Paris landmarks. The weather is cool and rainy but not rainy enough to keep us from enjoying ourselves.

This is the whole trip from the time we left home on May 1 to our return to Ottawa, July 5, 2023 – 8,700 miles and calculating we will have driven almost 10,000 miles by the time we actually get home.
July 5 Driftwood PP (Stonecliffe, ON) to Ottawa, ON
This is our last official camping morning of the trip and we are in one of our favorite campgrounds. What a perfect ending. Another glorious morning, warm with a slight breeze. We are now experiencing summer heat and the breeze is lovely. It’s also keeping the bugs away. Sitting here on the Ottawa River withContinue reading “July 5 Driftwood PP (Stonecliffe, ON) to Ottawa, ON”
