It is an absolutely beautiful day for visiting this wildlife refuge. (See description below) We have met up with our long time travel buddies and best friends. We have just spent a week in Ontario with family. Our friends are on their way to do the same in the upper peninsula (UP) of Michigan. WeContinue reading “September 11, Shiawassee Flats National Wildlife Refuge, Saginaw, Michigan”

August 3, Stratford ON
The short 2 hour drive today took us through the beautiful fertile farmland of Southern Ontario. In August, most of the wheat has been harvested, the corn ‘is as high as an elephants eye’ (words to that song were written about a mile from where we live in PA), along with soy beans and potatoes.Continue reading “August 3, Stratford ON”
2 August, to Dundalk, ON
Port Severn Port Severn on Georgian Bay hosts lock number 45 on the Trent-Severn Waterway. We love watching boats going through locks so we stopped here for a bit. Our daughter has a cottage near one of the locks in the Kawartha Lakes region of this waterway and a trip to the locks while thereContinue reading “2 August, to Dundalk, ON”
1 August, Six Mile Lake PP
We didn’t leave camp today until almost noon. We certainly don’t have far to go to our next one. Six Mile Lake. This is a holiday weekend here in Ontario and campsites were hard to find. In order to find places, we had to move every night. Not a lot to report today. We didn’tContinue reading “1 August, Six Mile Lake PP”
31 July, to Parry Sound and Ostler Lake Provincial Park
We didn’t have far to go today so there is no hurry to pack up. After a walk, we got away from Grundy Lake PP around 10:30 and mosied on down the highway towards Parry Sound through parts of the UNESCO 30,000 island biosphere. Bird sitings: sandhill cranes, mink in the parking lot of theContinue reading “31 July, to Parry Sound and Ostler Lake Provincial Park”
30 July, Grundy Provincial Park
Today was an in camp day although we had to change campsites in the afternoon. It was a lazy day, but also a relatively productive one. After a breakfast of homemade corn bread and sausage patties, we went for a nice long walk. The weather has cooled off a bit, down into the high 70sContinue reading “30 July, Grundy Provincial Park”
29 July, Manitoulin Island to Grundy Lake Provincial Park
We needed to time our exit from Manitoulin Island to avoid the 15 minute hourly closure for boat traffic at the swing bridge, the only bridge off the island. We slept in a bit… finally… and didn’t want to rush as we don’t have far to go today. We went for a walk after breakfastContinue reading “29 July, Manitoulin Island to Grundy Lake Provincial Park”
28 July, Sheguiandah, Manitoulin Island
The back end of our van faces due east over the water. It was hot last night and I left the back doors open and the privacy canvas slightly open at the top for air circulation. The sun broke the horizon at around 6:15 this morning. I got a quick glimpse and then went backContinue reading “28 July, Sheguiandah, Manitoulin Island”
27 July, from Tobermory to Manitoulin Island
Having packed everything up last night, it only took us 30 minutes to be out of camp. We have a 8:45 am sailing on the Ferry Chi-Cheemaun to South Baymouth on Manitoulin Island which means arriving much earlier. Coffee and breakfast (muffins and cheese) are in the ferry dock parking lot. As you can seeContinue reading “27 July, from Tobermory to Manitoulin Island”
July 26, Lands End, Tobermory
Today is an in camp day, no driving, a few chores like hand laundry, reading, walking, relaxing. We enjoyed a lazy late morning breakfast of pancakes, bacon and fresh Ontario peaches grown in the micro climate created by the Niagara escarpment. I have mentioned the Niagara Escarpment several times. It was an important geological featureContinue reading “July 26, Lands End, Tobermory”
