We had planned a day off from travel today. It’s good to take a break from driving every 7 to 10 days or so. These days are used to give the van a good cleaning, do laundry, take stock of food/ baking and replenish if needed, go for a walk, etc etc. Mother nature hadContinue reading “Day 26: Terra Nova National Park”

Day 25: CANADA DAY – Grand Falls-Windsor to Terra Nova National Park
The sun came out just as we were about to have breakfast. We moved out to the picnic table to enjoy it. It promises to be a little warmer today. This is a holiday. The campground is full of Canada Flags. Happy Canada Day! 🇨🇦 On July 1st, Canada celebrates its national day known asContinue reading “Day 25: CANADA DAY – Grand Falls-Windsor to Terra Nova National Park”
Day 24: Trout River to Grand Falls-Windsor
This is a travel day as we now try to catch up with our original reservations in Terra Nova National Park tomorrow. It was raining, again, this morning. It was a simple up and out, back tracking out of Gros Morne to Deer Lake and the TransCanada Highway east. Not a lot to report orContinue reading “Day 24: Trout River to Grand Falls-Windsor”
Day 23: Lomond Beach to Trout River campground, Gros Morne
What a difference a day makes! Sunny and cool. We aren’t traveling far today, only to the next campground in this part of the park. We passed through Woody Point again and the Tablelands Trail we did yesterday. We spent an educational hour at the Discovery Center along the way. Very informative and easy toContinue reading “Day 23: Lomond Beach to Trout River campground, Gros Morne”
Day 22: the Tablelands and Woody Point, Gros Morne NP
The upside of being dropped off at Port aux Basque is that we have more time to explore Gros Morne NP and do some hiking. We headed off this morning to hike the Tablelands Trail above Woody Point on Bonne Bay. Given the inclination of the weather to deteriorate in the afternoon, we chose toContinue reading “Day 22: the Tablelands and Woody Point, Gros Morne NP”
Day 21: Port aux Basques to Lomond Campground, Gros Morne National Park
Today was a recovery day. Our 6 hour ferry from North Sydney, Cape Breton was delayed sailing. We arrived in Port Aux Basque, NFLD around 2 am or so. By the time we disembarked and arrived at our nearby campsite, it was almost 3 am. We literally fell into bed. We lost another half hour.Continue reading “Day 21: Port aux Basques to Lomond Campground, Gros Morne National Park”
Day 20: Mira PP to Marine Ferry
Woke up to full sunshine this morning, a delightful treat after the last two days. Since we both have meetings that last beyond noonhour, there will be no sightseeing as we also need to catch the ferry to Newfoundland this afternoon. We have to be at the ferry terminal 2 hours prior to sailing. BreakfastContinue reading “Day 20: Mira PP to Marine Ferry”
Day 19: Glace Bay and Louisburg
It poured rain most of the night. There was a small lake between us and the campsite next door when we got up. We are in this campsite for 2 nights. We had wanted to do the historic fortress of Louisburg today but decided to wait until this afternoon. We drove to Glace Bay insteadContinue reading “Day 19: Glace Bay and Louisburg”
Dat 18: Broad Cove, Cape Breton Highlands, NP to Mira Provincial Park, NS
As predicted, we had a lot of rain last night. It had stopped by the time we got up and we could pack up without getting wet. We finish the Cabot Trail today. It’s warm but cloudy/misty. Our first stop was a quick visit to Keltic Lodge, an iconic 1940s lodge and legendary golf club.Continue reading “Dat 18: Broad Cove, Cape Breton Highlands, NP to Mira Provincial Park, NS”
Day 17: Baddeck, NS to Broad Cove Campground, Cape Breton Higlands National Park
Today we started touring the Cabot Trail ending with camping in Cape Breton Highlands National Park tonight. We’ll finish the rest of it tomorrow. Today is mainly scenery, some local history including a stop at the Acadian museum in Cheticamp. Honestly, as a crafter, this museum completely blew me away. It’s more than a museum,Continue reading “Day 17: Baddeck, NS to Broad Cove Campground, Cape Breton Higlands National Park”
