We don’t have far to travel today as we are just heading back to Blythe Island Regional Park for the weekend. We have a nice routine now on yearly days… leisurely coffee and breakfast, shower if we need to, pack up everything and then go for a nice long walk. Today’s walk took us toContinue reading “Day 15 – Jekyll Island to Blythe Island, Ga”

Day 14 – Fort McAllister to Jekyll Island
After a couple of warm days the weather had turned cooler again. Today was windy and a little misty at times. Another lazy start to the day and a long walk before packing up and leaving. Again we don’t have far to go. It’s Friday and the most difficult days to reserve campsite are overContinue reading “Day 14 – Fort McAllister to Jekyll Island”
Day 13 – St. Mary’s to Savannah, Fort McAllister State Park
We only have a 2 hour drive today and we are enjoying a relaxful morning with coffee and breakfast outside again. We haven’t been able to do this since Okefenokee. Last night was cool once the sun went down and the gnats drove us inside anyway. This morning the Thermocell seems to be keeping themContinue reading “Day 13 – St. Mary’s to Savannah, Fort McAllister State Park”
Day 12 – Cumberland Island
We had to get up early for the 9 am ferry to Cumberland Island. The only access is by ferry and it is walk on only. We packed food and water for the day. St Marys is the gateway to Cumberland Island, Georgia’s largest and southernmost barrier island. Here pristine maritime forests, undeveloped beaches andContinue reading “Day 12 – Cumberland Island”
Day 11 – St. Mary’s
Woke to a beautiful but much cooler morning. I was unable to log into a scheduled board meeting due to lack of network and adequate wifi. Trying to find somewhere to go with services for 2 1/2 hours was logistically possible. It always seems that networks disappear once inside state parks. After a leisurely strollContinue reading “Day 11 – St. Mary’s”
Day 10 – Okefenokee Swamp to St. Mary’s, GA
Cloudy and misty today and quite a bit cooler. Suspecting damp weather, we packed up all the outdoor gear last night as we move to a new location today. Brian had an early morning zoom meeting and needed to go down to the ranger station to get wifi. We have no network service at all.Continue reading “Day 10 – Okefenokee Swamp to St. Mary’s, GA”
Day 8/9 – Okefenokee Swamp, Stephen C. Foster State Park
Another beautiful morning. Being able to drink our morning coffee outside is definitely spoiling us. That and being able to stay out until bedtime! Did a little cleanup of the van, which we have decided to give a name to. We are calling it Impulse as we bought it on impulse. The nearest anything isContinue reading “Day 8/9 – Okefenokee Swamp, Stephen C. Foster State Park”
Day 7 – Blythe Island. GA to Stephen C. Foster State Park, Fargo, GA
After a leisurely pickup, we headed to a nearby Walmart to buy shorts and Tshirts before heading to our next destination. The weather is much warmer, actually hot, than we had anticipated. After leaving our campsite, we only drove through 2 small towns and the northeast corner of Florida before arriving at our destination inContinue reading “Day 7 – Blythe Island. GA to Stephen C. Foster State Park, Fargo, GA”
Day 6 – Blythe Island, SC; Brunswick, SC
I got back into making ‘egg bites’ again on this trip. This time with the last of a slice of ham, some asparagus tips and cheddar cheese. So breakfast was egg bites with my homemade bran muffins. This gorgeous morning bodes well for a hot day. We still have Brunswick itself to prowl around soContinue reading “Day 6 – Blythe Island, SC; Brunswick, SC”
Day 5 – Blythe Island, St. Simons island, GA
Today we decided to explore St. Simons Island, a historic location about 30 minutes east. This whole area is lowlands estuaries that form the barrier islands to the east. The intercoastal waterway running the length of the eastern part of the US goes through here. We did this trip by boat from Charleston, SC toContinue reading “Day 5 – Blythe Island, St. Simons island, GA”
