The short 2 hour drive today took us through the beautiful fertile farmland of Southern Ontario. In August, most of the wheat has been harvested, the corn ‘is as high as an elephants eye’ (words to that song were written about a mile from where we live in PA), along with soy beans and potatoes. This is Sunday. We passed many Mennonite carts on their way to church. They are different here than in the Amish country of Lancaster, PA. Bigger to hold their larger families and more geared towards winter weather.

Stratford Ontario
Knowing we were coming back through Stratford today, I managed to get tickets for Shakespeare’s A Winters Tale performed in the Tom Patterson theater. My husband and I grew up close enough to Stratford and the Shakespeare Festival to have been here for high school trips and as adults over the years. Stratford is a special place for us. We had a delightful brunch in the Cafe Buffoon with chairs so comfortable I didn’t want to leave.
The Stratford Festival in Stratford, Ontario, is one of the world’s leading classical theatre festivals. Founded in 1953 by journalist Tom Patterson to revitalize the local economy, it began with two Shakespeare plays under a tent. Today, it runs from April to October and features a wide range of productions—including Shakespearean drama, modern classics, musicals, and new Canadian works—performed in four venues, including the iconic Festival Theatre.
The festival draws hundreds of thousands of visitors annually and has launched the careers of many renowned actors. It also offers educational programs, backstage tours, and events that make theatre accessible and engaging.

We are camped for the next two nights in the Laurel Creek Conservation Area in Waterloo, Ontario where we have family. Starting tomorrow its family time for the next two weeks.

This has been a wonderfully relaxing trip as we’ve explored areas of our birth province we have never visited or visited as children. We will be gone from home another two weeks but the rest of the time will be with family between Ontario and Quebec.
Signing off for now. Thanks for taking this journey with us.
I also grew up with Shakespeare. I attended grammar school in the UK. My mother moved from London to Montreal in the mid 60’s when I moved to the USA. I met her at the Shakespeare Festival in Stratford, Ontario, one summer. I don’t remember which Shakespeare play we saw. We also saw a George Bernard Shaw play. It was a wonderful experience. Memories! I am enjoying your travelogues. Thank you, Sophie

Roger and I went to plays at Stratford for many years when we lived in Detroit. We loved Stratford.Yesterday, I saw “Hamlet “ once again at the Pa Shakespeare Festival. It was the last day of the festival and I had been remiss about getting myself there this year. JB
