31.03.2025 and 01.04.2025 Hunting Island State Park

Yesterday and today were meant to be resting days, no travel and nothing but long walks and relaxation.

Last night we had a severe thunderstorm, again at dinner time. I also had a 7 pm board meeting via zoom but even with the satellite dish reception was really poor. I am only glad that I wasn’t chairing the meeting. Brian had the same issue this morning with a meeting he had to leave  due to poor internet.

We decided to make a short outing today, packed up the van and drove down to the lighthouse, which is under construction, the visitor center and the nature center. We took a long walk on the fishing pier overlooking the saltwater marsh and bridge to Fripp Island, (privately owned). We drove back north to Harbor island in search of a lunch spot.

Some serious relaxation and another long walk completed the afternoon. No rain for tonight so it looks promising for dinner outside (hamburgers).

This is our full day in camp. Tomorrow we start heading north, stopping at In the Pines again for the night.

A few photos for today:

View of the salt marsh from the fishing pier. From here we watched cormorants, brown pelicans and terns in their daily hunt for food and a couple of the human variety on the Pier itself doing the same thing.
Lunch with a view of the salt marsh. Our campground is visible on the far side.
We are on the South Carolina coast, east of Beaufort and north of Hilton Head.
Joining us for dinner. I’m not used to seeing cardinals in palmettos.
