The mornings are starting to get slightly warmer but not yet warm enough for breakfast outside. We did enjoy a second coffee outside after our morning walk. Breakfast this morning consisted of the egg bites I baked yesterday, home made cinnamon rolls and a shared banana.
And what were we rewarded with this morning? A mud turtle sunning itself pond-side and these beautiful Carolina Jasmines.

Today will be a wandering / exploring day. Our next campsite is less than 2 hours down the road, just south of Myrtle Beach, a place we used to drive to from Montreal at spring break when our children were young.
We decided to take the kamikaze route along Hwy 17 through Myrtle Beach for old time’s sake except that the ‘old times’ were 40 years ago. How we do manage to pollute the areas we populate and visit for fun and relaxation is mind-boggling. One mall after the other filled with big box stores, chain restaurants, and large retail shopping. In what should be a pristine ecological environment. Truly astounding.
Since the van is trained to stop at quilt shops, we stopped at the very aptly named Quilting on the Beach in Myrtle Beach. A beautiful store.
Finding lunch in a non-chain restaurant open on a Monday in a strip mall was another endeavor. However, I did find one close to our destination and not in a mall.. On the Half Shell, a local oyster bar whose Monday special is $1 oysters. My husband really appreciated the selection! For my part, I had grilled shrimp tacos. Lovely.
We got into camp just after lunch. We are here for 2 days. We can walk everywhere as this campsite is on the beach and in a nature preserve. We walked over to the nature center and enjoyed an hour or so on the mud flats trying to figure what creatures made the intriguing footprints.

I will talk about the park in tomorrows blog as it was a 9 000 acre preserve built by the Huntingtons to provide sanctuary for the wildlife along this coastline. Thank goodness for long range thinking philanthropists.

Dinner was more leftovers. When we eat lunch out, we don’t need a big meal in the evening.
A little bit of rain today put some moisture in the air although it’s still too cool to stay outside past sundown.
