I have to admit, this is the most boring day we’ve had since leaving home. We are only about an hour from the ferry back to NFLD and there is little to do in the area.
After waking to a cloudy misty day, we had breakfast and then headed towards Blanc Sablon and the 3:30 pm ferry. We had hoped to get the van washed, but the only car wash is just that, a car wash, with not enough height clearance for the van. Looking for some place to at least go for a walk, we drive down into L’Anse au Clair. We walked along the harbor for a bit, but it was windy and cold. This town has a beautiful sand beach and we parked there for about an hour and had a late morning coffee.

Lunch was at Jungle Jim’s in the Northern Lights hotel in L’Anse au Claire. This is where the tour busses stay. There is nothing of note to report in the way of a meal. Typical large food chain menu. The only place we could find. We’ve been seeing these ‘restaurants’ everywhere in Atlantic Canada, so I suppose it was inevitable that we would have to eat in one.
Lunch over, there was nothing left to do but head to the ferry and wait for 2 hours. There were a lot of vehicles waiting for stand-by spots. How thankful we are that we have a reservation. Brian was chatting with the couple in the RV behind us. They were from Ontario and had driven the western part of the Labrador Hwy, doing it in the opposite direction we had planned. They were camped in a campground in Labrador City when the evacuation order went out. Being self-contained, they were amongst the first to leave.
Brian called Marine Atlantic this afternoon to see if it would be possible to change our reservation on the Port aux Basques ferry to a more reasonable time of day. He was informed that there are no reservations available for a vehicle our size until August! Do you think that staying up late in Goose Bay making ferry reservations was a good move? How happy are we with our Starlink?
Once we get to St. Barbe, I intend to do some baking to last us through the end of the trip, ditto with laundry.
I hate to say goodbye to Labrador. This has been a most interesting and educational experience. If we want to see Labrador City and finish the experience, we’ll do it through Quebec next time. It gives us something to look forward to.
We still haven’t seen a moose!
