We had planned a day off from travel today. It’s good to take a break from driving every 7 to 10 days or so. These days are used to give the van a good cleaning, do laundry, take stock of food/ baking and replenish if needed, go for a walk, etc etc.
Mother nature had a different plan for us. Heavy rain had settled in over this part of Newfoundland for the entire day. We did some cleaning, reorganized the freezer and the food cupboards. I had planned on my home baking to last until about now… and it has. I still have enough bran muffins, home made bread and cinnamon rolls for another week. Also still have several days of cookies and brownies. We aren’t eating a lot of snacks because our lunches have been so delicious and filling along with fresh fruit. No baking needed today. No laundry either as the Laundry Pavillion requires driving to and as it’s raining, everyone is likewise doing chores.
Hiking / walking / outdoor activities out of the question with the rain. Finding alternate activities were required. We drove down to the Interpretive Center in the park and spent an hour there going through the educational exhibits about the flora and fauna of the park. They also had a hands on tidal pool for the kids.

We ended up in the local seaside town of Charlottetown for lunch at the Clode Sound Restaurant and Motel where we learned about the Newfoundland iconic meal of cod, scrunchions, baked beans and toutons.

We didn’t partake as it was a dinner menu item. Charlottetown is a pretty little town
Lunch over, we ended up back in camp for the rest of a rainy afternoon. I curled up with my book (which I finished) and some rug hooking and maybe, a little nap (?). 😉
Dinner tonight is the rest of the scallops we purchased in Digby, rice and peas. Dessert is cheesecake we brought home from lunch.

Not much more to report for now. Back on the road tomorrow to Gander and Twillingate.
