Day 2 Natural Bridge, VA to Racoon Mountain, Chattanooga, Tennessee

Although this is the second time we have camped nearby, i haven’t talked about Natural Bridge itself. We visited it many years ago and hiked into it.

Natural Bridge, Virginia is a historic landmark in Rockbridge County, Virginia, USA. The Natural Bridge is a geological formation consisting of a natural arch created by the eroding forces of Cedar Creek. It is a popular tourist attraction known for its scenic beauty and rich history. George Washington is said to have surveyed the bridge and Thomas Jefferson is known to have owned it. Today, visitors can explore the natural wonder and learn about its significance in American history.

This will be another long day of travel ending close by to Chattanooga, Tennessee, a city we visited in November 2022. Our goal is to beat feet until we get to Mississippi, one of the 6 states we have still to visit in our lifetime.

It’s a pretty morning. Our campsite is inhabited by Nuthatches, those funny little birds that walk down tree trunks head first.

On our way out of the camp ground, we were delighted to find the chicken pen, also home to some cute black and white πŸ– 🐷.

Since yesterday afternoon we have been driving through the stunning Shenandoah Valley, located in the state of Virginia. It is nestled between the Blue Ridge Mountains to the east and the Allegheny Mountains to the west. The valley is named after the Shenandoah River, which flows through it.

The Shenandoah Valley is known for its natural beauty, including rolling hills, lush forests, and picturesque farmland. The region has a rich history dating back to colonial times and played a significant role in the American Civil War.

Today, the area is also home to charming small towns, historic sites, wineries, and cultural attractions.

As we drive, the Cherry tree are in full bloom amongst acres of daffodils

We have gotten far enough south to be able to eat dinner outside while the northeast prepares for another cold snap.
