Day 1 Home to KOA Natural Bridge, VA

Today was the start of another exciting trip for us. We decided to step up our game and hit the road an hour ahead of schedule, which proved to be a wise choice as it afforded us some extra time to unwind and go for a walk once we reached our campsite. It’s cool and windy today, but 🌞.

As we cruised down the interstates, the sight of countless trucks zipping along served as a stark reminder of just how crucial they are to our economy. It’s easy to overlook their role until you’re out on the open road, surrounded by these relentless workhorses of transportation.

Our familiarity with our trusty van, honed during our adventures last year, made packing a breeze. It’s impressive how effortlessly everything falls into place now, almost as if the van knows our routine as well as we do. Dewinterizing at camp was a minor task, but one that we’ve grown accustomed to handling with ease.

For dinner, we couldn’t resist returning to the Pink Cadillac Cafe, a charming haunt right by the entrance to the KOA. This marks our third visit, prompting us to jokingly wonder if we’ve earned “regular” status. It’s a delightful departure from our usual routine of cooking at the campsite, but sometimes a night off is just what we need to kick off our travels on the right note. I think this trip will see us doing more evening dining as we sample the delights of Southern cooking!
