May 21 Kakabeka Falls

Bird songs recorded: chestnut sided warbler, oven bird, Nashville warbler

Birds sighted: white pelicans on the river at Fort William on Saturday

We are using today as a day off, no traveling. We do have to change campsites though.

After a very lazy start that featured lattes and blueberry pancakes, we tidied up the van and then went for a nice long walk. It’s cloudy again and cooler.

I’ll just post wildlife and wildflower photos today. I have discovered that Google lens does a decent job of identification. The camera on my new phone is awesome! I have been playing around with it the last couple of days. I may never use my SLR camera again unless we are on safari. We did bring one camera body and large lens with us  just in case.

Marsh Marigold
??? Anybody know what this is ???
Fiddleheads (fern)
Ruffed Grouse in the campsite.
Cheeky little red squirrel. Smaller than a grey squirrel, larger than a chipmunk. They make a distinctive chattering noise. Very common in wooded areas of North America. I just learned that these little things are aggressive and territorial. In addition to eating seeds, they are also carnivores. They will eat small birds, baby rabbits and insects. Yikes.

This has been a very relaxful day. Other than going for 2 long walks, we haven’t done a whole lot. Tomorrow we have a long day on the road.
