A Canadian Odessey

Yesterday, May 1, marked the first day of our trip that will take us from Pennsylvania to our Canadian starting point in south western Ontario. After spending several days visiting family and celebrating our only grand daughter’s 21st birthday, we will head to the nation’s capital Ottawa then up to northern Ontario and more family before we head west through Manitoba, Saskatchewan, Alberta and British Columbia. On the return trip, we hope to fly to Iqaluit, the capital of one of Canada’s territories on Baffin Island. We will finish the trip with a visit to western Quebec and more family.

Atlantic Canada is not on our itinerary this time. Having lived in Quebec, we have done the eastern provinces several times including Newfoundland.

Hopefully we will provide you with some interesting geography, history and stories, photography and acquaint our American friends with its larger neighbor to the north.

The first 2 days of our trip is a route we have done many, many times… every 6 weeks in fact pre-covid… for 20+ years ie not a lot to say. However it is a beautiful drive through Pennsylvania and upstate New York through Corning, Buffalo and Niagara Falls.

The difference this time is camping overnight instead of stopping at our favorite inn in St.Catherines, On! We stopped for the night in a lovely small state park in Northern Pennsylvania ( we didn’t get far the first day) on a lake, Hills Creek State Park after taking a slightly different route than usual just to make it different. The weather has turned cold so no outdoor dining but at least sunset isn’t until 8 pm .. we walked the campsite a couple of times.

I promise, no quilt shops on this trip and no quilting blogs. I do have one with me to hand quilt, but I won’t talk about it.

Please come with us on this fantastic ( for us anyway) journey. We will be on the road for 10 weeks!
