Day 3: Carolina Beach State Park to Tybee Island, GA

We were up and out earlier than yesterday as we still have a distance to drive to our destination outside of Savannah. It rained a little bit overnight.

Unfortunately today we were forced back to I95 as we need to make time. South Carolina should be ashamed of the condition of their part of what is a major north south route from Boston to the tip of Florida. Surface conditions are deplorable and what I would call virtually unsafe for the 70 mph speed limit.

Today is mostly travel so I don’t have a lot of information. Our campsite for the next 2 nights is on Tybee Island just 15 miles east of Savannah. Due to construction on the bridge, it took us more than an hour to get across. With traffic backed up in both directions, the next time we leave the island will be when we leave this area. So once again, due to horrendous traffic and construction, we will not be touring Savannah itself this year either. My general observations are that we have let our coastal areas get too built up.

Oh well. Tybee Island has nice beaches and we will take a day off and spend tomorrow just walking rather than driving. We are on vacation after all and completely flexible.

Tonight is dinner out somewhere along said beaches and we have firewood for a campfire.

Oysters and charcuterie at the Sea Wolf. Excellent meal.
