After a hectic pre-travel day of meetings, classes, hair appointments and packing, we managed to leave home at a fairly decent time this morning. We are heading south again to the Georgia coast but we are taking a more relaxed attitude to the travel and not pushing anything. It really is high time we just did what we are supposed to be doing… wandering …
Once we cleared Philadelphia, we took a route down the DelMarVa peninsula to avoid Washington/ Baltimore and I95. We are camped in the same campground as on our last night of the previous trip to Georgia, at the very tip of the DelMarVa before entering the tunnel to Newport News.
Once in Maryland I started looking for quilt shops, of course! And was rewarded handsomely by finding not only a quilt shop but one in a historic building. The delightful owner had just finished renovating this former potato storage building next to the rail line. It was gorgeous with beautifully redone wooden floors, walls, beams and ceilings.

Van modifications for this trip: we keep adjusting and streamlining without doing a whole lot of structure changes. The main elements this time were the installation of door stoppers on the bathroom doors ( no more bungee cords to keep the doors open) and a shelf across the back where I now have small baskets for storage. Just those two things alone make a huge difference in usability and space saving. I also made hanging bags for the wardrobe that doesn’t get used as a wardrobe, therefore utilizing space without installing shelves. We also purchased an Alvantor 6×6 screened dining shelter that is supposed to be easy to put up and take down. We have yet to do that… once we get below the ‘gnat line’ it will come in handy. The gnats were ferocious last year so hopefully this will help.
I also have a quilt with me that I am attempting to hand quilt for the first time. Stay tuned.
Starting to cool off as the sun goes down. Indoor or outdoor dining tonight?
