Day 12: on the road to home part I

Given that this is the post-Thanksgiving weekend, we anticipate traffic on the interstates to be quite heavy. We gave ourselves two days to get home. The second one being a Monday. We have about 250 miles to cover today. Last night’s campsite was just south of the TN/VA border and we will leave TN quite soon after pulling out.

It rained overnight. There is heavy rain coming up the eastern seaboard from New Orleans towards Washington, Philadelphia and NYC. We hope to keep west of it today.

This area needs rain. It smells beautiful outside.

Heading north, our destination is a KOA, our only options once the state parks close for the season north of TN.

Back on I81 north. It’s already busy. The wandering part of this vacation is over.

True to expectations, traffic was very heavy especially around Roanoke and Lexington. Construction and accidents took us to a crawl in places. We did manage to get into our campsite in time for a walk before dark… and I finished the book I started reading at the beginning of the trip. Mission accomplished.
