We were able to sleep last night with the back doors. It was lovely wo wake up to the birds. It’s a beautiful morning and the rabbits are running around. Yes. We are back at the rabbit campground.
This is our last day before we head home tomorrow. We are staying in camp to enjoy the walking trails here and relaxing before our 3 day drive home.
We have decided to take the longer route home through Norfolk, VA to the east and up the Delmarva peninsula to avoid Washington and Baltimore. The truckers freedom convoy is still trying to make a last ditch effort at something or other and are still around. We would rather take an extra day and have a nicer drive in the long run. We now have reservations for the 2 nights back.
I decided to do some looking ahead food prep for the trip home. Since we aren’t going anywhere today and it’s getting hot already, I did some early baking.. egg bites for a quick breakfast and cornbread. Between the induction cook top, the toaster oven and the microwave, this is hardly camping any more. The tiny sink in the bathroom comes handy too since I have to put the lid down on the kitchen sink to make a countertop. I also brought this time my cordless hand mixer. I love it at home and it’s perfect in the van because you can use it anywhere, even at the picnic table. Brian is making fruit salad with all the leftover bits of fruit that need to be eaten up and I still have a few homemade cookies and enough homemade bread to get us home. Looking good!

We always find something different on our morning walk. Today it was turtles sunning on a log.
We spent a relaxing afternoon around the site and caught up on zoom with family and friends. There is a beautiful large porch attached to the office with decent wifi and a magnificent view. We could stay outside until bedtime, always a welcome treat.
What have we done on this trip to make portable life easier?
.. purchased a lighter weight hose that fits in a small bag
.. purchased a cord winder for the electrical cord. Both the electrical cord and the hose now fit into the same small compartment in the back
.. different folding technique for the patio mat and it now fits into a nylon bag and stuffed into the large door pocket on the driver’s side in the cab
.. the above allowed us to get rid of the large plastic box and use a smaller decorative padded ottoman box for the rest of the utilities we need to carry inside
.. I lined the inside of the lid of the ottoman with a placemat and turned upside down it makes a great tray for when the bed is made up (the ottoman is underneath the bed)
.. purchased long velcro straps for our bedding system. Combined with a lot of experimentation, the bedding folded is now half the size and fits under the wardrobe cupboard on one of the benches
.. found convenient storage areas in cupboards for both the toaster oven and the BBQ
.. I set my charging station in an overhead cupboard so we no longer have rechargeables cluttering up valuable countertop spaces. And it works while travel too.
What haven’t we used? We still haven’t used the table that came with the vehicle and have only used our fold up table once. Seriously considering leaving them both behind next time. The TV trays are so easy to set up and move around wherever we want them.. inside and out.
What was a surprise? We never thought we would use the OTA feature on the TV but in campsites with no network, we are close enough here to program the TV with the onboard antenna. At least we could watch the news occasionally.
A must: keeping organized and tidy, putting everything back in its place. Nothing is very far away, that’s for sure.
