Day 1. Doylestown to Roanoke Rapids, NC

This will be a short entry as it is just a travel day.

We left home in below freezing weather and a lot of wind. Our biggest traffic hurdles so close to home are getting around the triumvirate cities in our path south: Philadelphia, Baltimore and Wasington, DC. It’s Saturday on a long weekend but traffic was lighter than we usually expect. Rather than sticking to I-95, we picked up 301 south of Washington to almost Richmond. It gave us a nice break from an interstate and we enjoyed the countryside.

Lunch was a sandwich stop at a boatlaunch on the Pomonkey River. I am still making my own bread but this time I brought it all ready baked as we will only be gone a couple of weeks: white, whole wheat and Irish soda bread (an experiment that worked!) In addition to homemade bread I have homemade bran muffins and two kinds of cookies. We eat well!

The wind is making it unpleasant to be outside so we are now tucked cozily inside with our pre-dinner wine and music. We don’t have onboard water yet, so dinner will be simple.

Tonight will be a challenge. Temperatures will drop unto the 20s. We have never slept in either of our RVs with weather this cold. We do have onboard heating but we aren’t well insulated. Stay tuned! We figure that if we are too cold we can always just get up and drive.
