Day 14 | Sibley Lake, WY to Cody, WY

I have to admit, I love waking up to these beautiful mornings. Brian took a photo of the ponderosa pines from the bed!

Ponderosa pines from our ‘bedroom’ in the van

This is day 14.. almost halfway through the whole trip and I am taking stock of what we brought from home and still have or not… silly things like toilet paper, paper towels, coffee, frozen bread ( we have baked 3 out of the 9 I started with) etc etc. So far so good.

What haven’t we used…

. The table that came with the van and the folding table we packed. We have found that the 2 TV trays we brought are flexible, can be used indoors and outdoors and store and put up and down much easier.

. The onboard propane furnace.

. We used the A/C twice at lunch stops when Temps were in the high 90s. Never at night.

. The generator when we are in camp.

Appliances we are glad we brought: the toaster oven and the milk frother. The van came with a microwave and an induction burner which has been great. Even the second tiny sink in the bathroom has come in handy.

Ok.. off to see if we can find those moose! The cameras are back out now, between the seats where they should be. Except we didn’t find the moose.

The westward drive down from Sibley was awesome… if you weren’t the driver.. and bottomed out in a beautiful canyon with a stream running through it. We stopped late morning in Greybull to stretch our legs and take advantage of the cell tower to download messages and emails and post the blog.

Some roadside color

West of Greybull on hwy 16 we are back to open flat prairie, mainly sagebrush, with occasional agriculture, mainly hay and corn that is now being harvested. There must be access to water for farming as the rest of the landscape is pretty dry.

GREYBULL, WY

Stopped for food shopping and picnic lunch in Cody. We visited the Buffalo Bill Museum here and may come back tomorrow to see the raptors. Lovely town and lots to do

Proof that I do indeed drive the van.

Weather today is clear blue sky in the mid 80s. We have been really fortunate with the weather.

View from our campsite at Buffalo Bill State Park, Cody WY

I will write more about Buffalo Bill Cody tomorrow. Tonight we are camped at Buffalo Bill State Park. Northfork campground that is dammed up to create the Buffalo Bill Reservoir on the North Fork Shoshone R. The view from our campsite is gorgeous. However the wind is gusting to 40 mph and we can’t put anything outside for fear of losing things. This is a ‘loop campsite for lack of a better description. The campsite is a paved looped road, grassed in the center. Vehicles Park on the pavement in a circle with picnic tables etc in the center. I feel like I’m camped in our driveway. However our neighbors are in front of us and so far no one has come into the one across the road from us to block our beautiful view. Interesting concept for a campground. No tents are allowed in the center.

Hopefully the wind will die down when the sun goes down like it did in SD.

We set the chairs up on the leeward side of the van for protection from the wind so we could have dinner outside. The reward for this was an unobstructed view of moonrise over the hills. Just awesome. It was warm enough to sit outside until almost 9 pm.
