Day 3 | Ohio to Illinois

Today was a long driving day so this post will be short. We packed the van and outdoor accessories up last night so we could move out quickly this morning. Armed with lattes and granola bars we left the campsite at 7:15 am. The drive through Ohio was uneventful with good highways recently repaved. I was driving. My love affair with Hwy 70 ended as soon as we crossed into Indiana. I have never driven such bad roads. From Indianapolis to Peoria we also had unbelievably bad weather. So today was a ‘wash’, literally, but we weren’t expecting to sightsee anyway.

We also entered a new time zone so had to remember that our daily family zoom call at 5:30 was really 4:30.

Sitting in camp now with a glass of wine and our nightly ritual of pre-dinner music. I have ALL of our music installed on my phone and a good portable stereo speaker. Tonight we bought firewood for a campfire. I have s’more ingredients.

Back on the road early tomorrow. We are visiting a good friend in Des Moines for the evening so tomorrow night is a hotel.
